Organic Gardening Class Grow $700 dollars worth of fresh produce in just 10×10 feet? You can grow up to $700 worth of fresh produce in just 100 square feet (10×10 feet). Imagine growing enough food to feed your family for most of the year in just a 10×10 ft space. Spring is the second best time to get started. Bill Griffin, a local native and the owner of Griffins Organics, has been growing food organically for over 45 years. He has been growing produce by this method for over 25 years. The class has very little theory and is mostly “get down and get your hands dirty” type practical info. These classes run 8 weeks and each session is 1-2 hours long (depending on questions and participation). Everything on how to get your garden up and running, as well as companion plantings (they help your plants and confuse the bugs), using bugs to fight bugs (aka bugs: the good, the bad, and the just plain weird), quality tool selection and how to extend your growing season. The cost for these classes, $70 (per person/couple), covers the 2 books that the class uses, up to 5 packets of seeds from Bill’s personal collection and a one-year family membership at Woodlawn Nature Center. The information learned in these classes will help you and your family for a lifetime. The classes start March 27th, 6 pm, at the Woodlawn Nature Center (604 Woodlawn Avenue, Elkhart, IN) and run for 8 weeks. Seating is limited so call 269-663-2009 for more information or to reserve your seats.
